Becoming a registered voter is great, but it's only the entry point to your formal involvement in electoral politics. Being an informed voter is just as important as being a registered voter itself.

What is an informed voter? An informed voter is a U.S. citizen who takes the time to learn about campaign issues, candidates' position on issues, is knowledgeable about how to vote in local and national elections and knows their rights as a voter. Equally important, an informed voter has a Voting Plan.

What is a Voting Plan? A voting plan is as simple as a voter's checklist to ensure they are prepared to vote and actually make it to the poll on Election Day. There is no right or wrong way to create a plan, but a voting plan should include the following:

Check your voter registration status
Get a sample ballot
Know early voting and other election deadlines
Identify your designated polling place
Decide how you want to vote (absentee or in-person)
Determine if you have all the necessary documents to vote
