The Palmetto Civic Institute (PCI) is non-partisan organization committed to developing and increasing voter participation and civic engagement among Black youth ages 18-24 in South Carolina.
PCI understands the importance of an engaged and active youth citizenship and its historic role in creating a stronger democracy and improving the condition of Black Communities in South Carolina. PCI strives to create and bolster a culture of active citizenship through increased youth participation in electoral politics with a focus on political education.
In South Carolina, Black youth 18-24 yrs of age make up less than 3% of the state's registered voting population. While this group is interested in "doing good," those interests have not translated to increased participation in electoral politics.
