PCI is more than a “Get Out the Vote” drive, as such initiatives lack long term impact. PCI’s purpose is to train, educate, and equip Black youth in South Carolina with the knowledge and skills needed for thoughtful and effective year-round participation in local and state politics. We want our youth to see each election as an opportunity to create change and view all candidates and elected officials as potential partners for change.
We will achieve this by providing youth and community stakeholders with high quality political education and civic engagement training that promote civic participation in the forms of voting, service-learning and communicating with elected officials.
PCI was co-founded by Byron Jackson and Thaddeus White. Both have led and taken part in community organizing projects, voter registration drives and various political action efforts dedicated to increasing participation in electoral politics in rural South Carolina. Understanding that long-term and substantial change occurs when young voters, community members and politicians work together, they launch PCI.
